About Us


Wheaton Dance/Twirl Teams is committed to providing young athletes with the comprehensive training program they need in order to excel in the sport of competitive baton twirling. The team consists of more than fifty twirlers, ranging in age from two to twenty-six years. Wheaton offers a variety of baton twirling opportunities, including workshops and county classes for beginning students as well as competitive team classes for advanced and elite level twirlers. In addition to competing at local, regional, national, and world competitions, Wheaton also participates in a number of exhibitions in the local community throughout the year, including Frederick in the Streets and the University of Maryland’s basketball halftime shows. Wheaton strives to provide team members with a successful program based on the fundamentals of good sportsmanship and excellence through dedication.



Since 1959, the team has been coached by members of the D’Anna family as well as dedicated Wheaton team alumni.

Team History


Wheaton Dance/Twirl Teams was established in Wheaton, Maryland, in 1959 by Evelyn D’Anna.  Over the past 50 years, Wheaton has won more national and world dance twirl and twirling team titles than any other corps in the history of competitive baton twirling.
