Dance Twirl
Dance Twirl is a routine that incorporates (as the name indicates) dancing and twirling together is called a dance twirl. Rules state that you may not use props, more than one baton, "ground" the baton (it must remain in control of the twirler), and the routine shall be between 2 - 3 minutes long. Music and costuming are optional. There are different divisions/classifications that a group may enter:
  • Tiny Tot - average age is under 7.999
  • Juvenille - average age is under 10.999
  • Junior - average age is under 13.999
  • Senior
It is further divided by the number of members twirling in the routine:
  • Small (6 - 8 members)
  • Large (9 or more members
Team members are judged on apperance, dancing, twirling, production, teamwork, and penalties. Deductions are taken for:
  • Drops - Baton makes unintentional floor contact.
  • Breaks - Baton stops unintentionally, interrupting the flow and smoothne
  • Unison - When one twirler is not together with the entire group, she is out of unison.
  • Out-Of-Step - When a twirler is not in step with the beat of the routine and group, she is out of step.
  • Off Pattern - The baton is not vertical or horizontal, but on an incorrect plane.

 

Twirling Corps

A routine done to taped music, scored on marching and maneuvering, twirling, general effect and dancing. Deeductions are taken for drops, breaks, alignment, and out-of-steps.

Mike More Artistic Award

The Mike Moore Artistic Award is presented each year to the Junior or Senior Small Dance Twirl Team that best exemplifies a defined dance twirl team.

Sandy Myer Perpetual Outstanding Choreography Award

The Sandy Myer Perpetual Outstanding Choreography Award is presented each year to the Senior Large Twirl Team scoring the highest in the production caption.
